For Mac OS X 10.5.8: 1. Launch the Activity Monitor and select 'My Processes'. 2. Look for the process, 'mysqld' and quit each instance. Might see more than one instance. Possible conflicting and multiple 'mysqld' processes causing the sql server instance not to launch.
