Today, I learned a valuable lesson, very cheaply. I'm sporting what is probably the tiniest case ever of the infamous Garand Thumb.
(Can you even see the tiny blood blister in the center? I thought not.)
I caught my thumb in the bolt by the teeny-tiniest amount; luck won out over ineptitude. This is the only damage I sustained in my first practice match with the M1 Garand at the San Jose Zouaves club. I'm very grateful to the kind folks at the Zouaves, who put on a great intro course and practice match to get newbies (like me) started in high power rifle competition.
